Lace and Dagger offer set sizes, or a custom sizing option for a perfect fit. Here are our set sizes:
Small - 2, 8, 7, 9, 11 (12.2mm, 8.9mm, 9.2mm, 8.2mm, 6.5mm)
Medium - 1, 7, 6, 7, 10 (13.1mm, 9.2mm, 9.7mm, 9.2mm, 7.2mm)
Large - 0, 5, 4, 6, 9 (13.8mm, 10.4mm, 11.1mm, 9.7mm, 8.2mm)
Getting the perfect look and most comfortable fit from your press-on nails starts with choosing the correct nail size. If your tips are too wide or too narrow, they won't sit flush on the nail plate, which affects both appearance and wear time.
To help you find your ideal fit, there are three reliable methods for measuring your nails: the coin method, the tape method, and the soft measuring-tape method. Each technique can give you accurate results when done properly, ensuring your custom press-on nails look seamless and feel secure.
For the most accurate and reliable sizing, we highly recommend you purchase a sizing kit in the shape you intended to order your press-on nails in.
The Coin Method
This method is perfect if you don't have tape or a soft measuring tape at home. All you need is a coin and your phone, but the photo angle is crucial for accurate nail measurements.
If you are using this method, please send the images to me via Facebook or WhatsApp along with your order number.
1. Choose your coin
Please only use standard UK coins such as a 5p, 10p, 20p, or £1 coin.
These coins have known widths, which makes it easier to calculate your nail size.
2. Place your hand on a flat surface
Lay your hand flat on a table with your fingertips relaxed and naturally spaced. Avoid bending your fingers or lifting your hand, as this can distort the measurements.
3. Position the coin next to your nail
Place the coin directly beside the nail you want to measure, touching the side of your finger.
Make sure:
- The coin is on the same surface as your hand.
- The coin is not tilted or leaning.
- The coin sits level with the widest part of your natural nail.
This ensures the coin and nail are in the same perspective.
4. Take the photo at the correct angle
For accurate sizing, the photo must be taken:
- Straight down, above the nail, not from the side.
- At a 90-degree angle, not tilted.
-Close enough to see detail, but not so close that the image distorts.
- With the entire nail and coin in the frame.
If the photo is taken at an angle, your nail will appear wider or narrower than it really is, leading to incorrect press-n sizes. Imagine the phone is a scanner hovering directly above your head.
5. Check that the photo is clear
Before sending the photo, make sure you label the finger you have photographed, that the image is sharp, and that your full nail and coin are in the photo.
6. Send the photo
Clearly stating which nail has been photographed, send me the photographs on social media or WhatsApp. Then repeat for all 10 fingers. Measure each nail individually for the most accurate press-on nail sizing.
The Soft Measuring - Tape Method
The soft measuring-tape method is one of the most accurate ways to measure your natural nails for custom press-on nails. It's quick, reliable and ideal if you laready have a sewing or craft tape at home.
For the most precise results, use a flexible sewing tape that shows millimeters (mm) clearly. Millimeters are essential for matching your measurements to a press-on nail size chart.
1. Prepare your nails
Before measuring, make sure you wash your hands and have bare nails (no polish or nail enhancements).
2. Place your hand on a flat surface
Lay your hand flat on a table with your fingers relaxed. Avoid bending or curling your fingers as this could alter the width of your nail.
3. Position the measuring tape across the widest part of the nail
This step is key for accuracy! Hold the tape horizontally across the nail, and make sure it sits at the widest point, from sidewall to sidewall. Keep the tape flat and snug, not lifted or angled. Do not pull or stretch the tape, it should rest naturally across the nail.
4. Read the measurements in milimeters (mm)
Look directly down at the tape and note the number where the nail width ends. This is your nails measurements, for example: Index finger 12mm, Middle finger 14mm.
5. Repeat for all ten nails
Every nail is different, even on the same person, for example, uou may have one thumb larger than the other.
Measure each nail individually and write the measurements down in order.
For example:
Left hand: Thumb 15mm, Index 13mm, Middle 14mm, Ring 13mm, Pinky 10mm.
Right hand: Thumb 16mm, Index 13mm, Middle 14mm, Ring 13mm, Pinky 10mm.
6. Double-check any measurements that seem off
If one nail measurement looks unusual or is vastly different than the others make sure to re-measure that nail, making sure the tape is sitting flat with no creases, and confirm you're measuring the widest part. Accuracy ensures your press-ons fit perfectly and feel secure.
The Tape Method
This method is great if you have clear tape and a ruler. It gives very accurate nail width measurements for custom press-on nails.
1. Prepare your tools
- Tape (clear if possible, or masking tape)
- Pen or fine marker
- Ruler or measuring tape (must show millimetres mm)
- Scissors (optional)
- A sheet of white paper
2. Clean and dry your nails
Wash and dry your hands so there is no oil, dust or lotion, and ensure you have bare nails (no polish or nail enhancements).
3. Cut a small piece of tape
Cut a strip of tape slightly wider than your nail. You want it to be long enough to cover the widest part of your nail from sidewall to sidewall with a little bit extra.
4. Place the tape over your nail
Lay the tape gently across the centre of your nail, covering the widest part. Make sure to do this part carefully. Do not stretch the tape and avoid any creasing, as this can affect the accuracy of the measurement.
5. Mark the widest parts
Look at your nail from directly above the nail. With your pen, mark each side of the tape where your nail ends (left and right sidewalls).
6. Remove the tape carefully
Peel the tape off gently so the marks don't smudge. Stick the tape flat onto a piece of white paper or directly onto your ruler
7. Measure in millimetres
Line the tape up with your ruler in mm. Measure the distance between the two marks as accurately as possible. Note the number in mm (for example, 13mm).
8. Write down each nail size
Repeat the process for all ten nails, as each nail can be different. Write them down in order, for example:
Left hand: Thumb 15mm, Index 13mm, Middle 14mm, Ring 13mm, Pinky 10mm.
Right hand: Thumb 15mm, Index 12mm, Middle 14mm, Ring 13m, Pinky 10mm.
9. Double-check any nails that you're unsure about
If a measurement looks off or is greatly different from the others, re-measure that nail. Make sure the tape is always placed over the widest part of your natural nail and pressed firmly along the sides.
